June 1985 -- you know them all!

A definite peak time for 80's stations -- looking down this list, virtually every song in the top 20 would be very comfortable on such a station.  Notable exception -- the Mary Jane Girls, a one-hit wonder on the pop charts, and a catchy one, but rarely heard -- produced by Rick James who never did have a top 10 in his own name.

The VJs also picked on #15 as an embarrassing parody of a Cyndi Lauper record, alas done by Cyndi Lauper herself.

The bottom 20 though has some you likely haven't heard since the 80's -- the last top 40 hits for Kim Carnes, Air Supply, Supertramp, and (barring the novelty one-off Kokomo) the Beach Boys.  That's quite a list for a single top 40 chart.

And look at the debuts -- from no less than Whitney Houston to one- (or nearly one-) hit wonder icons:  Til Tuesday, Dead or Alive, Limahl, and Harold Faltermeyer.

By this week in 1985, we hadn't had a long-lasting #1 since 1983, so I was ready for "Shout" to do the trick, but there were just too many other big radio songs -- it only was #1 for 3 weeks.

Favorite:  despite the iconic songs, most of these are far from my favorites by these artists.  No 5-stars... so I'll go with Katrina and the Waves.
