June 1978 -- the RSO rein continues

1978 was the year of Saturday Night Fever, and along with it, the RSO record label which released it.  From 24 Dec 1977 through July, all but three weeks at #1 were held by RSO artists -- the Bee Gees, Yvonne Elliman, Player, Andy Gibb, and the Grease soundtrack songs.  The longest stretch was 21 weeks in a row, ended by Wings.
So, a lot of disco on this countdown, though not all was huge -- KC and the sunshine band had one of their random flops, only peaking at #35.  #37 sounded just like them too, and he got no higher.
Strangely unheard:  Roberta Flack, Rare Earth (a flop of a comeback), and Patti Smith's song, which I knew well as the 10,000 Maniacs songs from the 90's.
Stuck at #2 -- Gerry Rafferty, who stayed there 4 weeks, which got some press at the time.
First hit (of many): Genesis, Meat Loaf, Robert Palmer
Last hit (of many): Rare Earth
Favorites: (4-star) Abba, Andy Gibb, Wings, Donna Summer, Frankie Valli, Bonnie Tyler -- and the best:  Barry Manilow, though it was about to be eclipsed by Copacabana
