I heard the whole chart today, cruising through California. When I last wrote about 1971, the top 2 songs were debuting, and now these sit at #1 and 2!
The charts had a lot of interesting convergences. Two different versions of the iconic Coke Commercial were charting in the top 20 and moving up -- "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" -- reflecting a large number of songs in the early 70s about war, peace, and culture at large.
Both David Cassidy (#17) and his Partridge Family (#21). Michael Jackson was one of the two songs preventing his brothers from making the top 10....though they did eventually. Cher was just out of the top 40 while she was in with her husband. And then Three dog Night had rare consecutive top 40 entries.
Favorites: no 4- or 5-stars this week, so I'll go with Al Green (though I like Tina Turner's version more!)
